Cruisin' the Coast: A Downtown Ocean Springs Tradition Filled with Classic Cars and Fun!
Every year in October, the Mississippi Gulf Coast welcomes thousands of classic car enthusiasts and their beautiful, antique cars for Cruisin’ the Coast. This year, USA Today named Cruisin’ the Coast the best car show in America! And there were over 8,000 registered cars for 2018!
During this week-long event, attendees “cruise” to the block parties happening all along the coastal cities. Usually, Cruisin’ the Coast culminates in a 50s-themed block party in downtown Ocean Springs. Downtown is closed to regular traffic for the weekend, and classic cars line Government St. and Washington Ave—the city’s two main drags. Local restaurants and shops get in on the action too with 50s-style attire and special discounts for Cruisers. Elvis impersonators and poodle skirts abound as well as impeccably maintained antique vehicles…And The Inn is located right in the middle of it all!
We always enjoy hosting our Cruisin’ regulars at The Inn who have been parking their antique car(s) in front of the property for years!
Mr. & Mrs. Gerry and Avery Doubleday have been coming down to Cruisin’ the Coast from North Carolina since 1998…the first Cruisin’ was in 1996, so these guys are dedicated! Every year they bring a different car in their collection and take it for a ride down to the Coast from NC. Some of the cars they have brought down to the Coast through the years are this 1963 Chevrolet Impala, 1986 Mercedes 560SL, 1985 Nissan ZX, and 1971 Buick Skylark, (pictured above).
